So, I have lived in Alberta almost my entire life and I hated it. So, I did what any person would do and I left. I moved to the beautiful and historic Edinburgh in Scotland. I have spent the last 2 years living abroad and spent that time discovering other countries histories. I became interested in learning European geography and discovered some pretty rad places that I never knew existed. I have even taken to learning other languages…well, just Swedish. I have spent the last two years of my life falling in love with so many different countries and I decided I should fall in love with my own.
I mean, I am a proud Canadian, but when people would ask me about my home I couldn’t really give anyone any good answers. My mind always went blank and all I would think about was snow. Snow, snow, snow. SNOW IS EATING MY BRAIN!!! When I learned about Alberta and Canadian history my mind was consumed with cartoons and Captain Crunch because, let’s be honest, Captain Crunch is the best! As I have spent time discovering other countries I became more interested in Alberta. Plus, I also wanted to give people awesome answers when they asked me about where I was from.
After living abroad for two years and having my work visa expire, I moved back home to Alberta. I came back here with a new view on my home and I realized it’s not so bad! I just had to leave to find the great things about it. Plus, I became totally interested in traveling around Alberta and finding out what it has! I honestly had no idea there was a giant freaking perogy in Glendon. Who knew?! Well probably people in Glendon…I guess.
I am not going to lie, when I was away I missed Alberta. I have actually only been to maybe four or five places in Alberta and I have lived here for my entire life…excluding the 2 years I was away…but we’ll pretend it was my entire life just to make it sound more dramatic.
So in 2011 I am going to be heading around Alberta and actually discover it. Finding places and things that I never knew existed. I mean, might as well, I have nothing else to do! Plus, it’s about time I actually took an interest in one of the prettiest provinces in Canada. I just wish we had narwhals here too….freaking Baffin Islands stealing all the cool animals.
First stop? sometime in January and probably somewhere in Edmonton since that is the capital city. MIGHT AS WELL START AT THE TOP! (of the…cities….not the province….just…yeah….)
